About Us

San Juan Basin Health Department is an organized district health department that has served the residents of La Plata and Archuleta counties since 1948. It is governed by a local Board of Health whose seven members are appointed by the County Commissioners of the two counties.

San Juan Basin Health's mission is to protect human and environmental health and inspire well-being in our community.

Services include personal health (reproductive health for males and females, child health, communicable disease, immunizations, emergency preparedness, children's dental health), environmental health (water, septic, food and air quality) and community health programs (tobacco and substance abuse prevention, care coordination team, worksite wellness program).

The agency has a long history of successfully administering federal, state, local and private grants. Its current annual budget is about $4.7 million. For over 60 years, San Juan Basin Health has had the opportunity to improve the health and environment of the Southwest Colorado community.
