Smoke-Free Colorado Celebrates Two Year Anniversary

Colorado is celebrating its two-year anniversary of the smoke-free law on July 1, 2008. To help celebrate and acknowledge Colorado's work and dedication, an interactive SmokeFree Colorado timeline was developed.  This timeline is a powerful visual demonstration of positive momentum toward clean indoor laws in Colorado and the nation. Please watch and celebrate breathing easier...

Smoke-free laws are proving to be an effective way to improve public health by reducing people's exposure to secondhand smoke, which has been shown to be harmful to both adults and children and causes more than 50,000 deaths per year in the U.S  In fact, the Surgeon General report last year concluded that there is no risk-free level of  exposure to secondhand smoke and that eliminating smoking in indoor places protects everyone from secondhand smoke exposure.

Colorado offers several resources to smokers and other tobacco users who want to quit. The Colorado Quitline 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) is a free telephone coaching service that supports people in their quitting process and offers free nicotine patches. Smokers who use the QuitLine along with some form of nicotine replacement therapy such as the patch are nine time more likely to have a successful quit compared to smokers who attempt on their own.
