Health Services - including annual exams for teens, discussing birth control options, free condoms and other contraceptives (including the morning after pill), STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) testing and treatment, HPV immunizations. 100 Questions You’d Never Ask Your Parents – Elisabeth Henderson & Dr. Nancy Armstrong: This book answers the daunting questions every teen wants answered, but few teens want to ask. In a real voice and a nonjudgemental manner, 100 Questions delivers the answers with an exciting and fun approach, intending to remove both the mystery and the stigma from such “unmentionable” topics.
Changing Bodies, Changing Lives – Ruth Bell: This comprehensive book includes discussion of sexual technique, STDs and the danger of promiscuous sex, gay sex and sexual identity, and teenage pregnancy and its alternatives. It is illustrated with relevant cartoons, photographs, diagrams, and line drawings. Dozens of teenagers themselves were interviewed and are quoted in this book.
Deal with It! A Whole New Approach to Your Body, Brain, and Life as a gURL – Esther Drill, Heather McDonald & Rebecca Odes: Based on the popular website, gurl.com, this book covers many topics in a nonjudgemental tone including sexuality, sexual orientation, emotions, eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, relationships, friendships and SO MUCH MORE in a fun layout with questions, comments, and advices from real teen girls.
The Underground Guide to Teenage Sexuality – Michael J. Basso: discusses anatomy and physiology, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, birth control, abortion, and sexuality in terms that teenagers comprehend. It is nonjudgmental, encouraging readers to think about all aspects of the issues and make decisions that are comfortable for them. It tells teenagers that they must be prepared to protect themselves and accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
